Real Ventures Announces First Two Investments – Fabric Technologies and DokDok

Real Ventures launched officially in late October, 2010. They’ve got about $45 million to invest. And today they’re announcing their first two investments: Fabric Technologies and DokDok.

Fabric Technologies logoFabric Technologies delivers high performance computing in the browser. With Fabric, web sites and applications are as fast, powerful and flexible as native compiled applications. This enables a broad range of applications and services to move from the desktop to the browser and from the browser to the smart phone.

Mark MacLeod, Partner at Real Ventures, will be joining Fabric Technologies board.

The company was founded by Paul Doyle (CEO), Phil Taylor (CTO) and Peter Zion (VP Engineering), all of whom have deep roots in high end 3D. They all worked together at Softimage. Paul also had experience at Autodesk.

DokDok logoDokDok is described by Real Ventures as the leading e-mail data as a service platform.

Despite new communication, collaboration and productivity technologies, the volume of e-mails we deal with from colleagues, customers, friends and increasingly social networks and other services is only increasing. Your inbox contains years of important conversations and business information. DokDok’s rich e-mail API makes it easy for application developers to retrieve that information and leverage it in complementary apps like CRM, document management, collaboration and project management.

With DokDok’s APIs integrated into your application, end users just continue to send and receive e-mails. No change in behaviour is required. DokDok captures that activity and makes sure your application is always populated with the latest data.

DokDok was founded by Bruno Morency. Bruno is well known and regarded in the Montreal tech startup community. We’ve got an interview scheduled with DokDok tomorrow – so stay tuned for that.

It’s great to see Real Ventures announcing deals, and there are going to be a lot more announcements coming from them in the months to come.
