Localmind Raises $600,000 in Seed Funding
Localmind has just announced a seed funding round of $600,000 led by Granite Ventures, based in San Francisco. The company was originally funded by Year One Labs in Montreal. The founding team, Lenny Rachitsky and Beau Haugh, are now moving to San Francisco.
Localmind leverages check-in services like Foursquare, Gowalla, and Facebook Places to make powerful, real-time location-based Q&A the best way of discovering a city. The company originally launched an iPhone app, followed by Android and iPad apps. They released an open API as well, and with newly infused capital, Localmind will continue to expand its “omniscience-as-a-service” platform with high-quality, timely, relevant user experiences.
Along with Granite Ventures, the new investors include: iNovia Capital, Real Ventures, Ian Sobieski, Peter Bordes, Ty Danco, Zack Aarons and Ash Jhaveri. The investors are a combination of venture funds and prominent angel investors based in Montreal and across the United States.
