The Startup Genome is an ambitious project to take a data-driven approach to measuring startup success. The project recently released some findings, including a ranking of top startup ecosystems around the world.
Montreal ranked #25. Vancouver is #16. Toronto ranked #4 behind Silicon Valley, New York and London, UK.

At www.startupcompass.co you can also benchmark your startup against the thousands that were surveyed. It’s an interesting exercise to get a feel for where you’re at comparatively speaking with other companies. The data produced (I went through the benchmarking tool to test it) is quite revealing.
