There’s a new initiative in Montreal courtesy of Phil Gauvin from MatchFWD to help promote tech startups that are built in Montreal.
The site is called Great Interweb Built in Montreal (#builtinmtl).
It’s inspired by a similar initiative in New York called Made in NY.
The site is primarily a list of Montreal-based tech companies and startups. To get on the list you must meet the following criteria:
- Mostly coded in Montreal
- Must be pure play companies (they do business solely online)
- Must have at least 5,000 visitors or users visit the site or use the product every month.
There’s only a handful on the list for now, including a couple that are marked as “HIRING” so you know they have job opportunities. Companies on the list include HighScore House, Urban Orca, E-180 and others.
So why do something like this?
Here’s what it says on the site:
If you want to get your company onto the site, use this form. Image courtesy of BuiltinMtl.
If Montreal wants to claim a solid stance in the competitive world of the interweb, it needs to build great companies and let everyone knows they were built in Montreal. This is the startup equivalent of the 90′s “Support your local skateboarder” t-shirt. It also makes our moms and dads proud.
